Practical technology sourcing and category management for procurement professionals

Technology IT Procurement Foundations is a part of the CIPS Skills portfolio — a practical training course for procurement, sourcing, and business professionals who need to understand how technology buying actually works.

The course explains key IT procurement concepts, including SaaS, cloud services, IT outsourcing, buy-or-build decisions, TCO, sourcing strategy, supplier risk, contracting challenges, and service delivery. It is designed to help participants move beyond the legacy purchasing mentality and achieve superior results in complex technology categories.

Technology procurement is no longer just about running an RFP and comparing prices. SaaSpocalypse, bimodal IT, adaptive sourcing, Pace Layer, Buyclasses, Agile, Game Theory, Incomplete Contracts, and Relational Governance — these are just a few of the many specific concepts and tools that will help students add extra depth to the IT category analysis and sourcing strategies.

You will

  • review practical cases with the group, but with your dedicated GPT first,

  • create AI-enabled hybrid sourcing strategies,

  • regularly share your opinions via online tools, etc.

Everything that you studied or responded to will remain with you - via rich course deliverables and a dedicated custom GPT (your go-to information resource before, during, and after the course.) Your learnings will not evaporate the night after a course — it's meant to stay with you long enough to help your work.

This course, just as Technology IT Procurement, is a living organism   it's constantly updated and enriched, and you will be able to stay tuned to the latest content developments by retaining access to the knowledge library powering the dedicated GPT.

Does it sound like marketing tales? Try it yourself

Write "list" to see the knowledge topics or "case #1" to "case #6" to experience a practical case review.

You can request a dedicated training course for your company only. I'd be happy to coordinate with CIPS.
